KaBOOM! (kaboom.org) is a DC based national non-profit with a simple vision; To provide a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America. Listed as one of the 50 Best Nonprofits to Work for in 2011 by The NonProfit Times, we facilitate the planning and construction of community-build playspaces, provide online DIY resources, and rally individuals and communities to achieve better public awareness and funding for play opportunities nationwide.
We are currently seeking an experienced professional for our Director of Online Development to work in our Washington, DC headquarters. This individual will be responsible for leading an online team and manage the platforms and technologies that KaBOOM! uses to achieve its online strategy. In addition, this individual will participate in strategic planning discussions with the Vice President of Mass Action and other senior executives regarding the online programs and products. The Director of Online Development has four primary roles:
· Technology Leadership: Directly manage a team of Ruby on Rails, PHP, and iOS programmers to maintain existing applications and develop new technologies. Determine and manage the platforms and technologies that KaBOOM! uses to achieve its online goals.
· Product Development: Create product strategies and manage the software development lifecycle from inception and design through implementation and deployment. Work with the internal development team as well as external resources to deliver high quality products on time and on budget. Contribute code to products as a senior developer and review and help improve the contributions of junior developers.
· Systems Administration: Maintain, configure, deploy, and monitor the various servers and technologies that comprise the KaBOOM! network, including our main website: kaboom.org. Identify and diagnose problems promptly, and resolve them with no loss of data and minimal service disruption. Audit our security measures, make improvements, and prevent security intrusions by implementing best practices.
· Gamification Strategist: Help KaBOOM! pave the way forward in the non-profit space by adapting game design (through game and social mechanics) into our non-game applications like the main websites and our mobile apps. Manage our Badgeville account and implementation. Proactively search out new trends in the gamification industry and make sure KaBOOM! is a leader in creating offline action through online play.
Qualifications:
· Minimum 6-8 years of experience in software development
· Minimum three years of professional software project management experience
· 3+ years programming with Ruby on Rails and/or Python
· 2+ years working with iOS and Android
· Professional experience with MySQL and relational database design
· Understanding of GIS
· Mastery of software design and architectural patterns such MVC
· Experience in production environments using LAMP, Rails, and Python/Django
· Proven expertise in generating feature specifications, wireframes, and development processes
· Strong understanding of networking, infrastructure, systems administration
· Proven experience of deploying applications in the cloud
· Excellent project planning, time management, and organizational experience
· Extraordinary communication skills - must be able to clearly manage tasks and workflow with programmers while also articulating progress and complex concepts to non-programmers
