Cheri Media is seeking a highly motivated Back-End Developer to join our small Product Team in Atlanta, GA. Job Description

The Back-End Developer works primarily on building the PHP-based back-end systems of our web apps and publications, maintaining our server and database architecture, troubleshooting technical issues for our Editorial staff, and regularly evaluating our technology for improvements in stability and efficiency. Ideal candidates bring years of back-end development experience, expert coding in PHP, HTML/CSS, javascript, and remote scripting fundamentals, and the ability to execute with minimal supervision.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 2 years work creating content management systems and web applications
• Expert level knowledge of HTML/CSS
• Highly proficient with PHP
• Highly proficient with object-oriented JavaScript, JavaScript frameworks (jQuery in particular) and remote scripting fundamentals
• Knowledge of Apache, MySQL, DB/query optimization techniques, and other Linux configuration tuning
• Familiarity with cross-browser compatibility issues and performance optimization techniques
• Experience acting as the technical lead on a rapid paced web development project
• Ability to translate business rules and processes into database architecture and intuitive user interfaces
• Passion for clean code, modern web standards, and great user interface design
• Understanding of agile development practices
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred, But Not Required

• Specific experience developing for Wordpress
• Experience scaling web apps to millions of users
• Interest in mobile/app development
• Good understanding of and demonstrated ability to utilize XML/JSON-based RESTful APIs and other web services
• Experience developing web apps in Python and/or Ruby on Rails
