This is a project position with an estimated length of 1.5 years.

The Staff Software Engineer will be responsible for managing the development and maintenance of critical Java-based web services which power global ESPN mobile applications. The position requires an individual with the ability to oversee an offshore development team and ensure that ESPN standards of software quality are met. The position will also require significant hands-on development activities. The Staff Software Engineer will provide support for various global mobile development initiatives, or as otherwise directed by manager.

Responsibilities:
The Staff Software Engineer will be responsible for managing the development and maintenance of critical Java-based web services which power global ESPN mobile applications. The position requires an individual with the ability to oversee an offshore development team and ensure that ESPN standards of software quality are met. The position will also require significant hands-on development activities. The Staff Software Engineer will provide support for various global mobile development initiatives, or as otherwise directed by manager.
 
Qualifications:
 
• 7+ years’ experience as team lead or lead developer
• Server-side Java development skills
o Ability to deploy and troubleshoot apps running in Tomcat
o Extensive experience using Spring Framework
• MySQL DB
• Knowledge of different types of caching technologies
• Processing/Rendering XML/JSON
• Experience with REST APIs and API development
• Deep understanding of HTTP protocol
• Design strategies for internationalization of digital products
• Knowledge of load testing tools
• Knowledge and understanding of mobile content rendering technologies for video, images, etc.
• Experience building highly scalable content delivery services for extremely high-traffic applications
 
Preferred Qualifications:
• Windows Phone 7 development skills
• Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio development tools
• Experience with, or knowledge of, Groovy & Grails
 
Education:
•Bachelors Degree
