Picturelife is a New York and Chicago based company started by OMGPOP founder Charles Forman, Threadless.com founder Jacob DeHart, and Ohours.org founder Nate Westheimer.
Our product is a seamless and robust backup solution for all your photos, coupled with amazing front-end interfaces on the Web and iPhone for loving on them (organizing, searching, and sharing).
So far, the company has been built by its founders as well as our first hire, a star iOS and OSX developer. Everyone on the team is an engineer -- something we pride ourselves on.
We are now ready to strengthen our ranks and add a handful of critical first hires, starting with the backend/API team.
Our Ruby-powered backend sits (lighly) on the Merb framework, and uses Solr for search, Resque for asynchronous tasks, Redis for caching and other more ephemeral data, and MySQL as the main data store. We run all of our services on AWS.
We are not dogmatic about any part of our stack and willing to move in any direction.
We are looking for:
- Someone who wants to join forces with other great engineers at a company that will never sacrifice on quality of people and quality of product as it grows.
- Someone who brings serious experience scaling web services and doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty no matter what part of the stack.
- Someone who is both motivated and collaborative. We are not looking for someone to take our orders or to take orders from. We’re looking for partners in crime, wanting to build something really awesome.
- Someone who understands that an API has two equally important customers: the client developer and the end-user.
Ideally, but not necessarily, we’d like:
- Someone who lives in New York or Chicago, though quality of person could trump those desires.
- Someone whose scaling experience includes scaling with Ruby and Ruby frameworks.
- Somone who has set up, maintained, or intensely and thoughtfully consumed a robust API.
To apply, email ruby@picturelife.com and:
- Definitely write a short, very human paragraph introducing yourself.
- Definitely tell us about some of your “qualifications” (i.e. past work).
- Definitely let us know what stood out about this ad.
- Definitely let us know where you live.
- If you wish, include links to your blog, Github, Tumblr, Twitter, or any other account that tells us who you are.
- If you really wish, include a resume. But that’s very much not required.
To apply: Email ruby@picturelife.com including what we mention above.
