Atlantic Media is seeking an experienced WordPress developer for Quartz (http://qz.com), a new global business and finance digital property. You will work with other developers to build a solid backend for WordPress and devise solutions for our unique set of editorial and application needs. Our ideal fit should be able to creatively work within the WP architecture to maintain core principles and upgradability. You should be extremely proficient with PHP/MySQL, impeccable Wordpress experience, and expertise optimizing code for high traffic sites. In addition you should be familiar with best practices of handling web applications

This role is a hands-on position and you will be working closely with other developers on your team and editorial. There is the opportunity to work on a large number of fun and challenging problems as the site and team grow.

The position is based out of our new Soho office in NYC.

 
Major Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate with sales, editorial, and marketing groups to define a technical strategy that will support and scale to meet the needs of the product vision across all platforms
  • Work with Project Manager to define new product specifications and pipeline prioritization
  • Ensure product development estimates are accurate and projects are delivered on time
  • Proactively keep abreast of innovative industry developments
  • Mentor junior development staff members
  • Work closely with team to ensure adherence to best practice coding standards and architectures
 
Qualifications of Ideal Candidate:

  • Extensive experience writing Wordpress CMS tools and plugins - creating custom post types, taxonomies, feeds
  • Expert level in PHP and MySQL development (configure db, page, object and component caching) within a Wordpress architecture
  • Working on scaling projects with multiple developers on a single codebase
  • Managing version control systems (GIT preferred) code releases (merging, tagging, etc)
  • Proficiency at local environment development
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, strong organizational skills, with a methodical approach to all tasks
  • Technical problem-solving skills, ability to succeed in a fast-moving high-demand environment, and a willingness to "roll up your sleeves" when necessary
  • Previous employment at early-stage companies, preferably digital media startups
  • Willingness to learn new skills, frameworks, and programming languages as necessary
