BrightTag, a growing start-up in Chicago, is adding to its dev team. We don't need ninjas or rock stars but, rather, people who write great code and want to work on interesting things with others who are smart, innovative and driven. If you want to work at a company that values innovation and fun while shunning big company politics and drama, keep reading.
So, what would you be doing?
- As part of our tech team, you'll have the opportunity to drive requirements, architect new products, write great code and stay ahead technically.
- Experience life at a growing start-up.
What we believe:
- Code quality is more important that code quantity.
- Code must be peer-reviewed before it is committed.
- That just about everything you need to create and deploy a web-based application is best served by a free, open source offering.
- Open source projects are cool, and participating in open source development is even cooler.
- You have to design for scale and geographical distribution from the very beginning.
- Your development environment should mirror your production environment: at least two of everything.
- That any network i/o call can, and will, fail.
You are:
- Happiest when coding and solving interesting problems. You are really smart and amazing but your ego doesn't require that you be the only smart and amazing person on your team.
- Honest and ethical. You're also flexible, able to listen, adjust and innovate.
- A collaborator. You'll be comfortable working with everyone--tech team, product management, client services and senior management to innovate and turn business problems into relevant solutions that will make the Internet a better place.
- Already living in the area. Sorry, this is not a remote position nor will we relocate.
What we need from you:
- Programming experience in one or more of the following: Java, Ruby, node.js, Python. If you’re working on the front-end, skills will include serious JavaScript (jQuery), CSS, HTML, PHP.
- Experience creating large software systems with extensive knowledge of Linux deployment.
- Sense of curiosity and desire to always be learning.
- A solid foundation in computer science with practical experience in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
- Phenomenal communication skills. You know how to give/receive good news, bad news, suggestions and feedback.
- A strong preference for open source technologies is a must; experience working with and contributing to open source projects is a huge plus.
- Experience being part of an Agile team.
Think this could be the role for you? Well, here's the thing: we'd like to believe you, we really would! But you've got to show us. Send your resume and explain why you'd make a great addition to our team.
